Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to attend PME 34, 2010, to be held at the Federal University of Minas Gerais [UFMG], Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from July 18 to 23.

Our host organizing committee is the result of an institutional partnership between UFMG, the Federal University of Pernambuco [UFPE, Pernambuco] Graduate Program in Cognitive Psychology, and the State University of Rio Claro [UNESP-RC, São Paulo] Graduate Program in Mathematics Education. All our efforts will be directed to make our 2010 annual meeting as profitable as the previous ones, focusing especially on its social and scientific relevance.

The aim of the conference is to provide a contemporary debate on school and out-of-school processes of appropriation, production and sharing of mathematical knowledge and practices. Contemporary theoretical perspectives suggest that educational pedagogies are bounded by the educational contexts as well as the mathematics which is produced/reproduced and shared in different settings, including informal ones. At the moment, there are more questions open than answers suggested. Thus, PME 34 is intended to provide a potential forum to explore the lively character of psychology of mathematics education as a research field.
